The 'church' in 2030?

Image
The 'church' in the bible refers to, not a building, but a group of people sharing a common belief and worshipping together in unity. According to the Bible there is only one God, one faith, and one way to worship him, that is as set out in Holy Scripture. That united group is the one true church, who show their faith by the way they live their lives, in peace and love, love for God, for his word, for creation, and for fellow humans, including friends, family, strangers and even loving their enemies.

Beautiful Feet in China

Image
Excerpt from *ChinaAid website “I have attended the activities at their (underground) church which were basically Bible reading and singing by the people gathered there. These country women felt very happy that they could have such a religious activity and could sing together. I felt the sunshine in their hearts. Those of us who are better fed and better dressed may not have the sunshine as they do. Let me tell you the truth: after I watched this, I felt very moved though I’m not a religious person. After I contacted these believers living at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder of the society, and after I attended their activities, there were some changes in my understanding of Christianity. From my point of view, they really don’t care much about democracy or freedom as discussed by the intellectuals. They care more about their God, their church and the brothers and sisters inside the church!" Isa 52:7 "How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good

September in Sandakan

Image
The present town of Sandakan is known as the gateway for destinations in Sabah, such as the Rainforest Discovery Centre, Turtle Islands Park, Kinabatangan River and the Gomantong Caves. However, the town of Sandakan, in its heyday as a timber centre, once claimed to have the greatest concentration of millionaires anywhere in the world! The city was rebuilt on its present site in 1879, after an earlier settlement accidentally burnt down. The region had been known for centuries for its pearls, camphor, bees’ wax, sea cucumbers and edible birds’ nests, attracting traders from the nearby Sulu Sultanate and from as far as China.

The Coming Shift

Image
Two years ago, I was awoken in the middle of the night by the audible voice of the Lord and I heard the following – ‘hibernation to acceleration’! Nothing more - just three simple words. It didn’t take us long to realize what the Lord was saying to us - in many ways Jan and I had been in hibernation, taking cover after several years of incredible challenge and unrest, both in our personal lives and within our church community. To think that there would be acceleration in this confusing season was at first unnerving, however in hindsight just the encouragement we needed to push forward in a faith risk that would move us into a season of acceleration!

The Nature of a Servant?

Image
Phil 2:1 – 11 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus, Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth

NOW is the TIME

John 14:1-4 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."

No Hope Without Love

Image
"We are forgotten people" said the people at the Kenya and Ethiopian borders.  This was a cry from people who had to leave their families because of severe drought and wars.  This is the very reason we have gathered; to help the victims, facing death due to natural and human-made disasters.  For the past ten years, we have devoted our lives to pass on unconditional love to a suffering world.  But even at this moment, a quarter of the world population still lives in despair.  Someone has to go and share hope with them.  As long as hope can be risen in their souls and spirits, shared love itself is the very power that transforms their despair to hope.....President Lee Yong Ju, Team & Team International

YWAM Kona - Where the Son Always Shines!

Image
I am always excited to teach at YWAM!  Originally an acronym for 'Youth With a Mission', this 'evangelistic organization' has grown to include all ages of believers.  I was invited by friends, Bob and Carolyn Hopkins to join them in teaching at a Crossroads 'DTS', another acronym for Discipleship Training School.  However, there is nothing abbreviated about the training, the mentorship, the camraderie or the opportunity to serve the local and internaitonal community!  And an added bonus at the Kona Base is to enjoy the sounds, the smells, the sights, and the tastes  of the Hawaiian Islands in an incredibly peaceful environment.

I Feel His Pleasure!

Image
Seoul Korea –Gang-Nam & Bun-Dang BEDTS-Evening School Eric Liddel (1902 – 1945) was a Scottish athlete, rugby union internal and missionary. He was the winner of the Men’s 400 metres at the 1924 summer Olympics held in Paris. He was portrayed in the film, Chariots of Fire. Born in China, Eric returned there as a missionary in later life. “I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure.” Quoting Eric Liddell (Chariots of Fire) I believe God also made you and me for a purpose. Healed from terminal illness in the prime of my life, I love to share my testimony of how Jesus healed me and I love to pray for the sick to be healed. And when I pray for healing, I feel His pleasure!

'The Pursuit' in Medicine Hat!

Image
Medicine Hat is a city with a population of 60,000 located in the south-eastern part of the province of Alberta, Canada and situated on the South Saskatchewan River. Its major claim to fame is Rudyard Kipling’s famous line “all hell for a basement” referring to the vast reserves of natural gas beneath it. It’s unusual name “Medicine Hat” is the English translation of ‘Saamis’ the Blackfoot word for the eagle tail feather headdress worn by Medicine Men. This particular ‘Medicine Hat’ finds its origins from Aboriginal legends about a battle long ago between the Blackfoot and the Cree Indian tribes in which a retreating “Medicine Man” lost his Headdress in the South Saskatchewan River.

Expecting the Unexpected!

Image
I boarded the very familiar noon flight to Seoul on February 24th, well rested after a short holiday in Mexico. The twelve hour flight affords a lot of uninterrupted time to pray and ask for words of encouragement and wisdom for the Korean Churches. Over the last five years of ministry in the nation, I have come to expect the unexpected in all things – venue, schedule, itinerary, food, accommodation but most of all, how Holy Spirit will manifest the works of Jesus. This trip was no exception.

God is on the Move in Ghana!

Image
Ghana had been on my heart since my first visit in 2009, and I was pleased to receive an invitation from Rick and Donna Whitcomb to return to Ghana in January of 2010. I was also looking forward to meeting Prince, a handsome young 11 year old who we have recently introduced into our family. I was excited to bring with me my grandson’s very special soccer ball as well as an Olympic ‘Believe’ t-shirt and cap – some simple gifts for this young man who has had so much to overcome in his short lifetime.

Signs and Wonders

Image
Many believers are sensing that there will be a significant increase in signs and wonders over the next year and I can certainly confirm that. I love it when Holy Spirit manifests the love of Jesus through the miraculous and have seen repentance, salvation, deliverance, healing, and recommitment whenever this happens. Heb 2:3-4: This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

Thoughts on 2010

Image
Many of us were glad to see the hind quarters of 2009, as the challenges of global recession, terrorism and natural disasters affected all sectors of our society. Organizations merged, businesses closed, real-estate markets generally continued in decline, market place organizations, including the Christian community, experienced huge layoffs, financial mergers, re-evaluation of purpose and re-focusing of mission and vision. The clean up from last year’s major floods, earthquakes and fires continues. I am sensing for 2010, that we can anticipate more of the same. Events like the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver may bring some excitement and relief for a few weeks, however, it appears that the recession is far from over. The American – Canadian dream is falling like sand through the fingers, and many people will continue to live in fear of tomorrow.
