South Korea Jan and I had just completed a week of teaching at the Youth with a Mission Base (University of the Nations) in Kona Hawaii. We decided to take a walk along the beautiful white sand of the nearby beach. After a good brisk walk we  sat and relaxed for a while on the warm powder-like sand, watching wave after wave of sparkling lights from the sun dancing on the water. As I sat there, I heard the Lord speak to me. He said, “I am closing the doors of Kona for a season.” 

Recently I have been studying the account of Elijah, who declared there would be no dew or rain for the next few years. (Reference 1 st Kings Chapter 17)  As the prophesied drought began, the Lord guided Elijah to the Kerith Valley and provided a brook for water and ravens to bring food to him morning and evening.   Temporary provision was available for Elijah in this season of drought. However, one day the ravens stopped bringing food and the brook dried up.  Why, I wondered?  And then it came to me… What an excellent example of how God will supply provision for us, even if only for a season. God knows the plans He has for us, and by drying up the brook and stopping the ravens from delivering food every morning and evening, Elijah had no choice but to move on. Approximately 3 years ago I was awoken in the middle of the night by the audible voice of God!  The words that I heard were “I am taking my Church from Hibernation into Acceleration”.  I held those words in my spirit and thought on them many times, eventually producing a painting, which closely represented how those words felt to me.

The 'church' in the bible refers to, not a building, but a group of people sharing a common belief and worshipping together in unity. According to the Bible there is only one God, one faith, and one way to worship him, that is as set out in Holy Scripture. That united group is the one true church, who show their faith by the way they live their lives, in peace and love, love for God, for his word, for creation, and for fellow humans, including friends, family, strangers and even loving their enemies.

Two years ago, I was awoken in the middle of the night by the audible voice of the Lord and I heard the following – ‘hibernation to acceleration’! Nothing more - just three simple words. It didn’t take us long to realize what the Lord was saying to us - in many ways Jan and I had been in hibernation, taking cover after several years of incredible challenge and unrest, both in our personal lives and within our church community. To think that there would be acceleration in this confusing season was at first unnerving, however in hindsight just the encouragement we needed to push forward in a faith risk that would move us into a season of acceleration!        

Many of us were glad to see the hind quarters of 2009, as the challenges of global recession, terrorism and natural disasters affected all sectors of our society. Organizations merged, businesses closed, real-estate markets generally continued in decline, market place organizations, including the Christian community, experienced huge layoffs, financial mergers, re-evaluation of purpose and re-focusing of mission and vision. The clean up from last year’s major floods, earthquakes and fires continues. I am sensing for 2010, that we can anticipate more of the same. Events like the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver may bring some excitement and relief for a few weeks, however, it appears that the recession is far from over. The American – Canadian dream is falling like sand through the fingers, and many people will continue to live in fear of tomorrow.

I am sensing that 2008 is going to be a year of shaking and burning – although this sounds depressing, it is all good! God is calling the church back to her roots, back to the main and the plain, back to the basics. Back to her foundations. Many foundations are faulty, many foundations are being built on flesh rather than on the foundation which is Christ. The church has to be built on the Rock, not on personalities or flare. The Lord is calling his church back to her roots, back to the basics. The church will become boot camp for the basics. A time to re-dig the ancient wells, a time to follow ancient paths. When He calls the church back to her roots, that means He will start with us individually and this will manifest in the corporate church. He is going micro to affect the macro.

In 2001 I had an open vision of a huge Tsunami type wave coming towards the land. I was standing on a sandy beach, looking up at the wave as it was moving inland with enormous power. I knew that once the wave hit land, everything in it’s path would be wiped out, including me. Fear gripped me and unable to move I watched as it came closer and closer. Suddenly, it stopped – held back as if by the hand of the Lord. It began to gain even more height and power, the top of the wave being swept by the wind and cresting with powerful foam. While the wave was steadily increasing in size and power, it did not advance towards the land. Then suddenly across this wave stretching across the horizon from the left to the right appeared the word HEALING in large white neon letters. It was an incredibly beautiful vista and one I will never forget. The electric white neon letters against the azure waves, the power of movement and the promise of healing yet to come.
