Beautiful Feet in China

Excerpt from *ChinaAid website “I have attended the activities at their (underground) church which were basically Bible reading and singing by the people gathered there. These country women felt very happy that they could have such a religious activity and could sing together. I felt the sunshine in their hearts. Those of us who are better fed and better dressed may not have the sunshine as they do. Let me tell you the truth: after I watched this, I felt very moved though I’m not a religious person. After I contacted these believers living at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder of the society, and after I attended their activities, there were some changes in my understanding of Christianity. From my point of view, they really don’t care much about democracy or freedom as discussed by the intellectuals. September in Sandakan

The present town of Sandakan is known as the gateway for destinations in Sabah, such as the Rainforest Discovery Centre, Turtle Islands Park, Kinabatangan River and the Gomantong Caves. However, the town of Sandakan, in its heyday as a timber centre, once claimed to have the greatest concentration of millionaires anywhere in the world! The city was rebuilt on its present site in 1879, after an earlier settlement accidentally burnt down. The region had been known for centuries for its pearls, camphor, bees’ wax, sea cucumbers and edible birds’ nests, attracting traders from the nearby Sulu Sultanate and from as far as China.

The Coming Shift

Two years ago, I was awoken in the middle of the night by the audible voice of the Lord and I heard the following – ‘hibernation to acceleration’! Nothing more - just three simple words. It didn’t take us long to realize what the Lord was saying to us - in many ways Jan and I had been in hibernation, taking cover after several years of incredible challenge and unrest, both in our personal lives and within our church community. To think that there would be acceleration in this confusing season was at first unnerving, however in hindsight just the encouragement we needed to push forward in a faith risk that would move us into a season of acceleration!
